⚓ A Glorious Step Toward the Future: Coming of Age Feast Honors Twins of the Ubarate

Under the bright mid-morning sun in the heart of Selnar’s square, a truly magnificent celebration unfolded—one destined to be remembered for years to come. The Coming of Age Feast for Nikos Verus Mercurius and Cassandra Verus Lucia, beloved twins of our esteemed Ubar and Ubara, was a joyful and resplendent affair, honoring not only their growth into adulthood but also the bright future of Cos itself.

Hosted before the stately façade of the Merchant's Hall in the famed Street of Coins, the square was transformed into a vision of festivity and tradition. Silken banners fluttered in the breeze, and the scent of roasted meats, fresh breads, and sweetened fruits drifted on the air. Citizens gathered in noble numbers to offer their well wishes, bearing gifts of value and significance—each a symbol of respect for the House of Verus and the promise these young heirs hold for the Ubarate’s continued strength.

The festivities were further elevated by a stunning performance from the Dreamers’ Dance Troupe, who, joined by other talented slaves of Selnar, captivated the crowd with a series of elegant, emotive dances. Their movements were a tribute to honor, legacy, and the beauty of tradition, drawing applause and even hushed awe from the onlookers. Music filled the square—some sung, some played, and all offered in service to joy and occasion.

Slaves served with grace and precision, while others lent their voices to songs or offered small theatrical performances between the formal tributes. It was a showcase of unity and devotion—every caste and station contributing to this pivotal moment for the ruling household.

Though the day honored Cassandra and Nikos individually, it served a broader purpose: to remind us all of what we build, protect, and pass on. The legacy of Cos is not written by stone alone, but by those who inherit its ideals.

The Kraken Krier extends heartfelt congratulations to the Verus twins, and to the Ubar and Ubara, for raising such poised and promising children. If this feast was any indication, the future of the Ubarate shines brightly indeed.

2. Franksgiving: A Day of Surprises and Scandals

🦈 Franksgiving: A Day of Surprises and Scandals

Last week, the streets of Selnar were filled with chatter as the curious event known as Franksgiving took place. While its origins remain shrouded in mystery, some whisper that the infamous Hand of Fate and the city's kennel slaves had a hand in its creation—perhaps as another clever way to promote gambling within our fine city.

But the event’s true purpose—or at least its claimed reason—was to celebrate the birthday of Frank, a Thassa shark from the local aquarium. Or at least, that’s what some say. Regardless, the day saw an abundance of food, including a sushi bar and a new cold creamery that had the crowd raving. As for the drinks, well, they flowed as freely as rumors at a feast.

However, it wasn’t all celebration. Word has it that Selnar’s own Shelby Boseman and Kaela Priscus Altius were involved in an altercation, allegedly brought on by none other than a shark bite. Yes, you heard that right—a shark bite. What started as a simple quarrel escalated quickly, leaving many to wonder ... was this just the latest incident in the ongoing rivalry between these two?

As the day ended, one thing was certain: Franksgiving will be a topic of gossip for weeks to come.

Franksgiving Speech

Shelby had carefully tip-toed her way around the edge of Frank’s tank toward a little platform that had been constructed just for this moment, and called out to the growing crowd below, a toast for Frank, on his birthday.

“Tal, Cosians, Friends and slaves!  Thank you for coming today for the beginning of our Franksgiving festivities!  If you don’t mind, I’d like to say a few words about the Fish of Honor, and if you’ve got a drink in hand, please join me in a toast.”

“To Frank, our beloved beast of tooth and fin. The sharp-toothed guardian of justice, the swimmer of slow, solemn circles. The only shark I know who has not only a fan base, but a holiday in his honor.  Frank, you are, in many ways, our city in miniature. Majestic, fierce, powerful, unapologetically insatiable, and occasionally, very difficult to explain to visitors.”

“Frank, you’re not always perfect, but we love you anyway.  Once in a while you chomp down on an unsuspecting visitor just cooling their feet in the pool.  And -” she hesitates a moment, a hand lifted to her heart, voice cracking slightly as if choking up.  “And once in a while you eat a vulo, whose only purpose in life was to bring joy to our community,” she finally got the words out, adding an aside, “May Pbecky rest in peace.”

“Friends, I wasn’t sure if we would get to celebrate Franksgiving this year.  When the storm came, it came fast, and it came hard.  It did not ask questions, just gripped us, unrelenting, until we were sure we could take no more.  Our city strained, our walls shuddered.  The sea crept into places it had no business creeping!  And for a moment, everything we had - our homes, our safety, our certainty, was shaken to the very core.”

“The storm destroyed so much, but not our Home Stone, and not our Cosian spirit.  In the wreckage, we found one another. We found hands reaching out. People giving more than they had. Strangers becoming family, one meal, one shared laugh, one rebuilt wall at a time.  We pulled our people from the floodwater.  Friends, enemies -” she paused looking to Kaela, “It didn’t matter.  We didn’t wait for orders, and we didn’t wait for heroes - we became them.”

“And there was Frank through it all.  Silent, unbothered, circling like a great, wet metronome, reminding us in his way that storms pass, water calms, and life, however strange, swims on.”

“So on this Franksgiving, we don’t just give thanks for survival. We give thanks for the spirit that held us together. For the wild, weird, wonderful thing we’ve built here. For the fact that love can look like anything - even a fin slicing through still water.”

“And in this glorious city, no one faces the waves alone, so today, we celebrate not just Frank, but our Home Stone.  We eat. We laugh. We rebuild. We welcome each other home again.”

“Thank you everyone for being here, for Frank and for each other.  Be strong but merciful.  Eat only the wicked.  And as always, long may Frank swim. HAIL COS!”

3. Magistrate Legion Dryden Stripped of Title Amidst Unclear Scandal

⚓ Magistrate Legion Dryden Stripped of Title Amidst Unclear Scandal

In a move that has sent ripples through the city of Selnar, Legion Dryden has officially been relieved of his duties and title as Magistrate. While the exact circumstances leading to his abrupt fall from grace remain murky, it is confirmed that he has been fined and formally removed from office.

The Kraken Krier reached out to several key figures in an effort to put any rumors to rest, but most remained tight-lipped, offering little more than hushed tones and uneasy glances. Whispers swirl of internal misconduct, possible breaches of decorum, or perhaps a more personal unraveling — but without official word, it’s all speculation.

Dryden, once hailed for his sharp legal mind and swift decision-making, had maintained a prominent presence in city affairs, presiding over several high-profile cases and casting votes that shaped the fabric of daily life in Selnar. His sudden removal, with no public trial or formal inquiry disclosed, leaves many citizens wondering: what truly happened behind closed doors?

Some believe the final straw may have been tied to internal pressures from the High Council, while others suggest it stemmed from Dryden’s own erratic behavior in recent weeks. Still, without any official statement forthcoming, the silence surrounding the situation is as deafening as it is suspicious.

For now, his seat on the magistrate bench remains empty — a stark reminder that in Selnar, no man is above the law, and even those who write it can fall prey to its weight.

As always, the Kraken Krier will continue to monitor developments and bring clarity to this unsettling turn of events as more information becomes available.

4.  A War Cry Too Soon? Anti-Tent March Raises Eyebrows Amid Ongoing Recovery

⚓ A War Cry Too Soon? Anti-Tent March Raises Eyebrows Amid Ongoing Recovery

With the last of the relief tents now finally cleared from the streets of Selnar, many breathe a cautious sigh of progress. But for some, the memory of a particular outburst during the height of recovery efforts still lingers—namely, the impassioned and controversial call to action issued by Tribune Bryan Kobaleinen under the slogan: “Say No to the Tents.”

Standing boldly in front of the Library while the city was still reeling from floodwaters and displacement, Kobaleinen rallied citizens to “take Selnar back,” proclaiming that the tents—temporary shelters for the storm’s victims—were an eyesore that must be torn down. “We shall take what is ours,” he declared. “We shall take our eyes back.”

While the tents have since come down—through organized recovery efforts, not force—many still question the timing and tone of the Tribune’s declaration. At the time, families huddled beneath canvas walls, children slept on borrowed furs, and the infirmary overflowed with those recovering from injury and illness. Kobaleinen's words struck many as not only premature, but lacking in empathy.

“I understand wanting to restore order,” one citizen reflected, “but how do you demand the end of tents when your neighbors are still living in them?”

It is worth noting that the Warrior Caste has played a crucial role in rescue and security throughout the crisis, and Kobaleinen’s frustrations may have stemmed from a place of exhaustion and a desire for stability. Still, leadership requires not just strength, but timing and tact—qualities that some feel were sorely missing that day.

In retrospect, the Tribune’s protest may be seen as a misguided rally rather than an outright offense—but it remains a moment that will not be quickly forgotten. As the city rebuilds, perhaps the lesson is this: true victory comes not from tearing down the tents, but from ensuring those who once needed them have a place to truly call home.

5. The Legend of the Starstone - Ongoing Research

⚓ The Legend of the Starstone - Ongoing Research

As mentioned in our last edition of the Krier, the legend of the Starstone—once a tale told over mugs of ale and whispered to children to keep them in bed at night—might be more than myth. Could it be that Cornelius Tarrant, with his eccentricities and wild-eyed enthusiasm, stumbled upon something truly extraordinary before his disappearance?

As of now, little is known beyond these initial revelations. Scribes and researchers have already begun gathering in secretive corners of the Blue Caste, poring over every detail of Tarrant’s journal. They are deep in their studies, following the trail marked out by Tarrant’s hand, unsure of what they might uncover but certain that this could lead to a discovery of immense consequence.

One thing is certain: the implications of what’s found within those pages could stir not just the Scribe Caste, but the entire city. Some believe it could reignite the fervor of the Initiate Caste, stirring old beliefs and fears that could spark a heretical frenzy once more. Others whisper that the map may lead to an ancient power, one that could reshape the political and cultural landscape of Selnar and beyond.

For now, the Scribes of Selnar remain tight-lipped on what they have seen within Tarrant's journal. However, it seems that man of the Blue Caste are deeply invested in the mystery, and believe it may be the key to unlocking something far greater than anyone could have imagined.

The journey ahead promises danger, intrigue, and a destiny that could very well exceed our wildest imaginations. Could we be on the cusp of an adventure, one that intertwines history, myth, and the uncharted depths of our world? Only time will tell.

For now, all we can do is wait—while the trail continues to unravel, one secret at a time.

Scroll Fragment from the Selnar Archives

On the Four Temperaments of Submission

As considered in the Treatise of Tenabras of Argentum

Copied and annotated by Cornelius Aloysius of House Tarrant,

Scholar and Assistant High Scribe | City of Selnar, Cos

════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════

It is a gentle satisfaction of the Caste of Scribes to preserve scrolls whose wisdom has outlived their age, whose quiet truths persist beneath the noise of markets and the clangour of the chain. So it is with the little-known treatise of Tenabras of Argentum concerning the temperaments of submission, a scroll which has not yet lost its worth to thoughtful owners, serious Slavers and those Physicians who incline themselves to the study of psychology.

Tenabras contended that the slave spirit, though shaped by training and discipline, was at root governed by four elemental humours of disposition. From this fountainhead arose the many varieties of slaves, whose yielding was coloured not by the accident of capture but by the inward inclination of the soul.

The choleric temperament he likened to fire, according to Marrus of Venna. In this woman, the bondage is not worn with ease nor accepted without protest. She contests her condition, not to escape it but to find in it a Master of sufficient force and cunning to conquer her properly. Her pride is no flaw, but the measure of the strength required to master her. If subdued with patience and skill, she will burn with fierce and absolute devotion. Palantinus of Ar warned that if the slave is mishandled, she may shatter or burn the hand that grasps her. The wise Master reads the fire and bends it to warmth; the fool is consumed by it.

More subtle is the melancholic disposition, which is not sadness but order. Such a slave is reflective, silent, drawn to certainty and structure. She seeks command not for fear nor for pleasure but for the quiet assurance that her world has shape and reason. Her mind turns inward, her spirit watches and measures. In such women there is often hidden intelligence, a delight in patterns and meanings. When neglected or left to drift, they sour into bitterness or fade into lifeless obedience, after studies from Physician Thassidor of Thentis concluded such outcomes. However, in the firm house with clear law and careful word they bloom into treasures of service and understanding. It is no surprise that such women flourish as slaves to the intellectual or governance, cup-bearers or silent attendants in high houses, where the labyrinth of protocol is their secret joy.

There are those whose spirit is sanguine, bright as dawn upon the Tamber Gulf. These slaves laugh in their chains, delight in their own beauty and rejoice in the collar as a garland. They make play of their service, pleasure of their obedience, as can be seen in Slaver Kersus of Torcadino's household who assisted in providing slaves for this research. Their joy draws the gaze of men and the silver and gold of buyers. Physician Harlentius of Kasra did posit that their weakness is the temptation to remain shallow, a festival mask without depth or endurance. The Master who stirs their deeper waters brings forth not a toy, but a woman of endless charm and warmth. The one who forgets this raises only a fleeting delight, like song fading on the wind.

Lastly the phlegmatic spirit appears calm and steadfast. This slave yields without storm or song, content in labour, dutiful in service, tireless in the tasks set before her. Her virtue is her endurance; yet Tenebras warned that her flaw is the danger of emptiness. Without care, she becomes but a tool, a vessel poured out and forgotten. Yet when rightly guided she is the foundation of the house, the quiet strength upon which all else rests secure. She needs neither fierce command nor coaxing praise, but the sure knowledge that her work is seen, her place respected and her worth understood.

Tenabras erred, as all men do, in supposing these temperaments wholly separate. They mingle and shift as the tide beneath the moons. The fiery slave may long for rest; the quiet one may burn with secret defiance; the laughing one may fall silent; the tireless may dream of dance. No chain binds the inward self so tightly as to prevent its changing. The Master who would truly rule the woman in the collar must perceive not only the outward show but the inward wheel.

Mastery is not the command of one humour but of the whole. The perfect slave is no creature of single nature but one in whom fire, thought, joy and steadfastness are each awakened and each fulfilled. She resists as the choleric yet yields as the phlegmatic. She contemplates as the melancholic yet laughs as the sanguine. In this balance the soul is complete and in such mastery the house of the Master is made glorious.

Thus, this scroll remains, not as law nor as fixed measure, but as guidance for the wise. As Erastos of Corcyrus wrote in an older time, the Master commands not flesh only, but the turning of the soul.

May this fragment endure as counsel to those who seek understanding and may it stir the thought of all who hold the collar and the whip.

Speculation Stirs Over Growing Influence of the Black Caste in Selnar

By an Anonymous Contributor to The Kraken Krier

In the quiet aftermath of the recent storm that ravaged the city, whispers of a shadowy and unsettling presence within Selnar’s walls have begun to surface. Rumors are circulating that the number of Black Caste members in the city is steadily growing, though the specifics remain elusive. The true extent of this influx is, for now, shrouded in secrecy, but certain events have fueled the growing sense of unease among the public.

Late the night the storm struck, a hooded informant was seen in a clandestine meeting with one of the trusted writers of The Kraken Krier. While many of the details of this conversation remain locked behind a veil of mystery, those in the know hint that the conversation involved matters far more sinister than the rebuilding of the city’s flood-ravaged streets. Word has it that, within the dimly lit corners of the meeting room, there were veiled references to the Black Caste possibly harboring a growing number of assassins among its ranks.

The Black Caste, traditionally known for its role in gathering and distributing information, is not an unfamiliar part of Selnar’s social fabric. However, the suggestion that there may be a covert faction within the Caste operating with lethal intent is deeply troubling. In a city already reeling from a devastating storm and dealing with the implications of disrupted trade and governance, such rumors have the potential to tear at the very fabric of Selnar’s tenuous peace.

Yet, such matters are not to be taken lightly. Accusations of this nature require the utmost discretion and responsibility in their investigation. At present, no proof has surfaced to corroborate the whispers of growing violence in the Black Caste’s ranks, and thus it would be ill-advised to leap to conclusions prematurely. The writer of the Krier, who was privy to this exchange, insists that while the details remain sparse, there is a clear need for further inquiry. It is imperative, they say, that such investigations be carried out in the quietest of manners, lest unwarranted panic take root within the city's heart.

One can only wonder what other pieces of the puzzle are still hidden in the shadows. Perhaps, as the city recovers from its wounds, more will be revealed. If there are others among us who have additional information on this matter—who may have seen things or heard whispers in the night—it is imperative that they find a way to bring these concerns to light. However, let it be known that this is a matter best left in the hands of those who know how to tread lightly. The last thing the people of Selnar need now is a public spectacle that could sow even more chaos in a time of rebuilding.

As we await further clarity, we urge those with knowledge to come forward, but only to the right ears. Let us all remain vigilant and poised, for Selnar’s future may depend on how deftly we navigate these murky waters.

BENEATH THE KEEPER'S SHDOW - CHAPTER 1

Chapter 1: The Tempest and the Keeper

The storm had descended upon Selnar without warning, as if the very sky sought to challenge the city's might. Winds howled like wolves in the distance, rattling the window panes of every building. The once-bustling streets had emptied, the usual rhythm of the city drowned beneath the furious roar of thunder. In the heart of the storm, there was only one place where warmth and shelter could be found: The Keeper's Tavern.

Nestled near the edge of the city's labyrinthine alleys, the tavern was a refuge for those seeking solace from both the elements and their own inner turmoil. Within, the scent of spiced wine mingled with the aroma of fresh bread, a subtle contrast to the biting cold outside. The flickering light of the hearth danced against the shadows that played on the walls, casting an ethereal glow over the patrons seated in hushed conversation.

She had never intended to be here.

The Scribe, whom none had yet dared to name aloud, had ventured into the tavern only to escape the storm. Her robes, damp with rainwater, clung to her lithe form as she stepped inside, her heart racing not just from the elements but from the sudden, suffocating presence that filled the space. The tavern fell silent for a moment, as though the very air held its breath. All eyes turned, but one figure dominated the room—a tall man, draped in shadow, standing behind the bar with a composed grace that belied the turbulence of the storm outside.

Silas Karn. The tavern keeper. And the enigma of Selnar.

There was no mistaking his dominance. His presence was magnetic, like the calm at the center of the storm. Dark hair framed a face that was both striking and hard, his eyes deep pools of calculated mystery that seemed to see through her as if she were laid bare before him. Yet, as he approached, there was a flicker of something dangerous, something almost... predatory.

"Welcome to my tavern, Scribe," he murmured, his voice low, its timbre sending a shiver down her spine. His words held no warmth—just an invitation, veiled in the authority he exuded. "You’ve found shelter from the storm, but I wonder... are you seeking refuge from something more than just the rain?"

She hesitated, then nodded, unsure why her body responded so strongly to his mere presence. She had heard the rumors, of course. Silas was the subject of countless whispered conversations in the halls of the Scribe Caste. Some spoke of his charm, others of his cruel demeanor, but none could deny that he was a man who held power over all who crossed his path. Yet, no one could quite decipher him—not even those who claimed to know him best.

"I... I only seek warmth," she stammered, feeling the heat of the fire contrast with the cool tension building in the room. She could feel the weight of his gaze, as though he was peeling away the layers of her soul, reading her every thought without uttering a single word.

Silas studied her for a moment, his lips curling into a smile that was more a threat than a gesture of kindness. "Perhaps," he murmured, "but warmth can be... so much more than just the fire."

She swallowed hard, uncertain of whether she had misread his intent. She had expected a quiet retreat from the storm, a place to gather herself after the chaos of the day. But the air in the tavern felt charged now, a current running beneath the surface, as if the storm outside had manifested in the space between them.

"Do you know what people say about me?" he asked suddenly, his voice cutting through the silence.

She met his eyes, surprised by the directness. "I have heard many things... rumors, mostly," she replied carefully.

"And what are these rumors, Scribe?" His voice softened, drawing her in, but the edge remained, unmistakable.

She hesitated before speaking. "That you... indulge in the pleasures of many women. That you are a man of... considerable reputation."

His smile deepened, but it was not the smile of a man satisfied with flattery. It was the smile of someone who reveled in the mystery, in the power of suggestion. "And what do you think, Scribe? Do you believe the rumors?"

Her heart pounded in her chest. She had not expected to be so drawn into his web, but now, as she stood there, so close to him, she felt it. The unspoken pull. The dangerous allure of a man who controlled more than just the tavern.

"I think... I think they are more than rumors," she admitted, her voice barely above a whisper.

Silas’ eyes gleamed with satisfaction. "And yet, here you are," he said, his voice dark and knowing, "seeking warmth from a man whose reputation precedes him. But I wonder, Scribe..." He leaned in closer, the scent of wine and spice filling her senses. "Do you truly seek warmth, or are you simply curious about the fire that threatens to consume you?"

The heat between them escalated, but it was not a fire of comfort. No, this was a fire of desire, of something darker that neither of them could ignore.

She had come here to escape, to find shelter. But in Silas Karn's presence, there was no escaping the storm within her.

Warning: One warrior in particular (perhaps with ambitions larger than his sword) may attempt to challenge authority publicly. Watch closely.

Forecast: Guard your temper, but act with clarity. The true test will not be in your might, but in your measure.

🜁 Blue Caste (Scribes, Clerks, Magistrates)

Theme: The Quill Strikes Sharper than the Blade

With Mercury moving through your sign, your words carry tremendous weight. Decrees, verdicts, and records made now will echo well into the fall. But beware—your silence may say even more.

Rumor among the stars: A lost document or secret census error could re-emerge, stirring conflict in unexpected quarters.

Forecast: This is your time to lead with ink, but mind the parchment—what is written now will not be easily unwritten.

🜃 Green Caste (Physicians, Healers, Herbalists)

Theme: Healing the Healers

The post-storm period has left you overextended. Venus in retrograde reminds you to nurture yourself as fiercely as you nurture others. A new herbal discovery or strange ailment may require immediate research.

Note from the stars: A high-caste patient may seek your help—what you diagnose may not be entirely physical.

Forecast: Trust your hands, but also your instincts. And drink water. You’re not as invincible as you act.

🜏 Yellow Caste (Builders, Engineers, Artisans)

Theme: Stability in Flux

You are being pulled in two directions: to rebuild what was, or reinvent what could be. One commission may come with political strings—examine motives before lifting your hammer.

Celestial clue: A blueprint recently drawn will need to be corrected. One misalignment could lead to structural (and political) collapse.

Forecast: Be exact, be cautious, and don’t forget—sometimes saying no is the most masterful design of all.

🝞 White Caste (Initiates, Temple Attendants)

Theme: Omen in the Shadows

A recent lightning strike near a sacred site was no accident. Spiritual signs abound—dreams, visions, whispers—but interpretation is fractured. A debate may arise within your order regarding doctrine or celestial law.

Prophecy fragment: A star vanished from the sky three nights past. Has anyone else seen it?

Forecast: This is not the time to preach. It is the time to listen, and watch… for something stirs in the silence.

💰 Merchant Caste & Lower Castes (Traders, Bakers, Peasants, Slavers, Musicians, etc.)

Theme: Hustle in the Heat

Markets are unsettled. Water-damaged goods, livestock shortages, and interrupted trade routes create rare opportunities for clever minds. Expect some castes to hoard, others to rise.

Gossip in the stars: A member of the Merchant Caste may be away on “vacation,” but rumors say they’ve gone to gamble with Selnar’s reputation as collateral…

Forecast: Price with confidence, barter boldly—but beware partnerships formed during this period. Not all buyers are honest.

◈━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━◈

🌓 Moon Phases & City Energy:

Late Ninetis: Emotions are heightened. Expect arguments, flare-ups, and strange liaisons.

Early Camerius: A wave of ambition and repositioning hits the castes. Promotions, rivalries, and secret alliances blossom under the heat.

◈━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━◈

💫 FINAL OMENS:

A kajira will say the wrong name at the wrong time—and be rewarded.

A scribe will uncover a numerical inconsistency that points to a much larger truth.

A Free Woman’s slipper, lost during a flood, will reappear… in someone else’s quarters.

The city of Selnar is grappling with the aftermath of recent storms and flooding, leading to significant disruptions across various sectors. While some industries show signs of recovery, the overall trade health remains cautious. Supply chain interruptions and infrastructure damages continue to affect market dynamics, leading to increased volatility and uncertainty.

⚙️ Iron & Steel

The Iron & Steel sector has experienced a surge in demand due to the urgent need for repairs and reconstruction following the storms. However, production has been hampered by damaged facilities and disrupted supply chains. Prices are expected to remain high as rebuilding efforts intensify, but short-term shortages may occur.

🛒 Commodities & Goods

The Commodities & Goods market is facing challenges as flooding has damaged storage facilities and disrupted transportation routes. Essential goods, particularly foodstuffs like grain and fruit, are in short supply, leading to price increases. Luxury items such as silk and spices are also affected, with delays in shipments and potential quality degradation.

🐄 Livestock & Transport

The livestock market has been severely impacted, with many herds lost or displaced due to flooding. Transportation of remaining stock is hindered by damaged roads and infrastructure. This has led to increased prices for available livestock and transportation services. Recovery is expected to be slow, with restocking efforts taking several months.

🧑‍🤝‍🧑 Slave Market Index

The Slave Market is experiencing instability as recent events have disrupted the supply and demand balance. While there is a continued need for labor in reconstruction efforts, the market is cautious due to uncertainties about future regulations and the availability of slaves. Prices are fluctuating, and potential buyers are advised to proceed with caution.

Builder Caste: Builders are in high demand, leading to increased workloads. However, there are concerns about the availability of materials and skilled labor, which may affect project timelines.

Scribe Caste: The Scribe Caste is experiencing an uptick in demand for documentation related to insurance claims, contracts, and legal matters arising from the recent events.

◈━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━◈

🗣️ Market Gossip & Forecasts

Rumors suggest that certain influential families are consolidating resources to control key supply chains, particularly in the grain and livestock sectors.

Speculation is rife about potential reforms in the Slave Market, with discussions about stricter regulations and oversight.

There are whispers of a new military alliance forming, which could shift the balance of power and affect trade routes and security arrangements.

◈━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━◈

🔮 Next Month’s Hot Speculation

Livestock: Investors are eyeing the livestock sector, anticipating a rebound as herds are restocked. While prices are currently high, there is potential for growth as supply stabilizes.

Iron & Steel: With ongoing reconstruction efforts, the demand for building materials is expected to remain strong. Investments in this sector may yield returns as infrastructure projects progress.

Slave Market: The Slave Market is under scrutiny, and potential regulatory changes could impact prices and availability. Investors should monitor developments closely.

◈━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━◈

LIZARD INVASION

- BREAKING DISCOVERY

From the Editor's Desk:

                                         *.*.*.*.*.NEWS FLASH.*.*.*.*.*.*.*.

While the Merchant Caste works tirelessly to recover from the devastating aftermath of the flood, all eyes are on the apparent absence of one of its prominent figures, Shelby Boseman. Sources report that Boseman has traveled to Venna, ostensibly to indulge in the city’s famed gambling scene. However, whispers abound that her interests lie not in the recovery of the Merchant Caste, but in personal prestige and fortune.

Her sudden departure leaves a vacuum of leadership at a time when the Caste desperately needs guidance. It wouldn’t be surprising to see another member rise to power, someone perhaps more dedicated to the well-being of the Caste, and less interested in self-glorification. As the Merchant Caste navigates these trying times, many are left wondering whether Shelby Boseman will return to fulfill her duties—or if she’s already left the Caste to fend for itself.

                                      *.*.*.*.*.LIZARD INVASION.*.*.*.*.*.*.*.

In a most unexpected twist, Selnar is grappling with an uninvited and utterly perplexing guest: lizards. Yes, you read that correctly—lizards. These once-innocent creatures have suddenly become the talk of the town, appearing in the most random and, often, unsettling places. From the quietest corners of the Library to the bustling halls of the Scribe Caste, these cold-blooded intruders have been creeping their way into everyday life.

The mystery of their sudden and unexplained appearance has left many citizens scratching their heads, but no one has felt the effects more personally than Lady Kaela Priscus Altius, Assistant Head of the Scribe Caste.

In an utterly un-Kaela-like turn of events, the usually composed and dignified Lady Kaela was heard having what can only be described as a meltdown within the Scribe Caste’s office. Witnesses say that it began as a normal day, with the Assistant Head of Caste quietly going about her work, when suddenly, a piercing scream shattered the usual calm of the Scribe Hall. The source? None other than Lady Kaela herself.

Ever-vigilant, her trusted guard, Bors, rushed into her office, weapon in hand, ready to face whatever danger might lurk inside. What he found, however, was a sight that many of the city’s residents—who have long admired Lady Kaela’s eloquence and poise—would never have imagined. There she stood, perched precariously on her desk, her usual calm demeanor replaced with one of sheer terror.

Lady Kaela was screaming and pointing frantically at the wall behind her desk, where a lizard—one of these increasingly common invaders—was casually crawling, oblivious to the panic it had stirred. For those who know her, this was a startling sight indeed. The elegant and controlled woman—who could speak on any topic with grace—was rendered speechless by the mere presence of a creature that many would consider harmless. Suffice it to say, the usually composed Lady Kaela is deathly afraid of creepy crawlies.

Bors, ever the professional, did what any dutiful guard would do: he swiftly dealt with the offending reptile, removing it from Lady Kaela's office. But the incident has since sparked widespread speculation and, not surprisingly, a great deal of gossip.

Why are these lizards appearing now, and why are they showing up in the most bizarre locations? One can only wonder if this sudden infestation is tied to the recent storms that have washed across Selnar, possibly displacing these creatures from their natural habitat. Or could there be a more mystical explanation at play—one that may even tie into the growing legends surrounding the Starstone?

For now, Lady Kaela has been unusually tight-lipped about the incident, but sources close to her say that her typically composed nature has been shaken by this unexpected encounter. And though the lizards have mostly retreated from sight, many are left wondering if they’ll make an unwelcome return.

As for Bors, he's been receiving quiet praise for his quick thinking, with some joking that perhaps his next duty should be to carry a lizard-catching net instead of a sword.

In any case, we advise all citizens to be on the lookout—who knows where these scaly creatures will pop up next. One thing is for certain: the lizard invasion is far from over.

The Mystery of Soha the Farmer: A New Chapter in the Saga

By now, whispers and rumors have saturated the air, but the truth about Soha the Farmer's fate is still a mystery. Just days after her presumed death in the aftermath of the fire that ravaged her estate, shocking news has surfaced. The gossip mill churned with tales of a dramatic and curious scene that took place on the night Soha was last seen: a woman bearing the unmistakable features of the farmer, accompanied by a satchel, flanked by new slaves, and, most intriguingly, a towering woman dressed in green. This enigmatic figure was cloaked in heavy robes and a hood that obscured her identity, adding another layer of intrigue to an already puzzling tale.

According to sources who claim to have seen the group, the foursome made their way swiftly toward the harbor under the cover of darkness, disappearing aboard a private vessel that had been waiting at the dock. The ship’s name, as elusive as its passengers, remains unknown. What was most striking, however, was the sense of urgency that surrounded their departure. Was Soha truly alive, or could it have been a clever double, brought forth in a scheme so carefully orchestrated that even the most vigilant eyes could not detect the ruse?

Theories abound. Some suggest that Soha, fearing for her life after the fire's devastation and the increasing tensions surrounding her, chose to escape, perhaps under duress or with the assistance of powerful allies. The mysterious woman dressed in green raises even more questions—who could she be, and what role did she play in this strange flight? Could she be a sorceress, a member of some secretive order, or perhaps a figure with far-reaching connections?

Others believe that the woman who left with the group was, indeed, not Soha herself but rather someone who resembled her closely—perhaps an imposter or someone hired to take her place. The mounting evidence of Soha’s involvement with dark and mysterious figures suggests that this is no mere accident. Why flee so suddenly, especially after a confrontation that left the city buzzing with rumors?

As the investigation unfolds, one thing is certain: Soha the Farmer’s story is far from over, and whatever secrets she carried with her—whether true or not—are far from being uncovered. Those who witnessed the scene are tight-lipped, and the authorities seem hesitant to speak on the matter, leaving only more questions in their wake.

For now, the people of Selnar are left to wonder: will Soha return, or is this the end of the tale of the farmer who disappeared into the night, taking her secrets—and possibly her life—with her?

🎭 A Dreadful Display: The Latest 'Theater of Lost Souls' Performance

The latest installment of Theater of Lost Souls has left more questions than answers, and I find myself compelled to write this scathing review, lest we forget the true nature of what we’ve just witnessed. After the shocking, if somewhat dubious, last performance that seemed to flirt dangerously with the notion of treason, this latest show has crossed into outright madness.

It was supposed to be another evening of theatrics and spectacle, but what we got was far from what any decent theatergoer might expect—unless, of course, the aim was to provoke confusion, discomfort, and a sense of unease throughout the entire crowd.

The performance opened with a scene that was both perplexing and alarming. A gallows—yes, a real gallows—stood ominously center stage, casting a dark shadow over the entire event. The audience sat in stunned silence, unsure whether the events unfolding before them were part of the performance or something far more sinister. And then, in a bizarre twist that nearly had some of the onlookers fainting, the performers were actually hung. Yes, the cast members, in their usual dramatic flair, appeared to meet their gruesome fate—on stage. The tension was unbearable, with many in the crowd fearing for a moment that they had unwittingly become witnesses to an execution.

While one cannot deny the performers’ talent—each individual is, without question, a multi-faceted and skilled artist—the spectacle raised serious concerns. What could have possibly compelled such a strange and disturbing direction? Is this the kind of art we should be promoting in Selnar? There’s an unsettling air about the entire production, and rumors are already swirling that the troupe may have indulged in certain herbs or libations to heighten the intensity of their performances. While I have no firm proof of this, the increasingly erratic nature of their shows makes one wonder just what might be fueling these delusions of grandeur.

The audience, for all its confusion, still flocked to the event—drawn, no doubt, by the same spectacle-seeking desire that has long kept such performances in the public eye. But the question remains: what kind of crowd does this theater attract? And more importantly, what does it say about those of us who are still willing to sit through such twisted madness?

The Theater of Lost Souls has, undeniably, found an audience. But is this truly the kind of audience any respectable theater should want? I, for one, would hesitate to be seen in their midst. Whether the troupe is experimenting with dangerous notions or simply losing their grip on reality, I can’t say. But it’s clear that we’re watching the unraveling of something—art, sanity, or perhaps both.

For those curious about the latest performance, be prepared to leave with a sense of dread, discomfort, and, most likely, a whole lot of unanswered questions. And, for the sake of your sanity, perhaps ask yourself: is it worth it?

Complete Copy of the Performance:

[15:12:05] The Theater: A deep pressure fills the Forum. Nothing could escape, not oxygen nor life. Only light penetrated its walls, and only time could move freely.

The play was to begin.

[15:15:01] The Man: He steps forward, looking out among the crowd as he exclaims in a booming voice "This court is now in session. The charges: Corruption of self. Division of will. Betrayal of unity. " With a few slow steps back he looked to the three women to his right, his emotions hidden behind that mask. "You three have done enough damage on your own. Now we stand here with all you’ve done. This smoldering pile of ash."

His gaze fell on the unmasked woman, furthest on the left to the crowd. The Beast. " Let’s begin with you. What have you done?"

[15:20:11] THE BEAST squirmed and thrashed against the rope, a soft laugh echoing out; their voice splits with a grin, “You loved me once,” a breathy sigh, “When fists spoke louder than reason. When lust dragged you into beds you’d never remember. When hunger didn’t mean survival. When all it meant was food.” A dreamy sigh, wistful, “Don’t you remember the Disco?”

[15:24:27] The Man: He turned about to look down ways to the scantily clad woman, The Beast. The compatriot to his vices. "You chased every urge like a dog, and you dragged me along!"

His teeth were bared, causing his tone to sound stiff as he glared through his sightless mask towards her. "Every morning with a pounding headache, or a new itch. "

[15:30:06] THE BEAST laughs, head thrown around, searching with wild eyes, “But didn’t it feel /alive/?” The binds stay taut, even as the Beast writhes, “When the fire burned in your gut, didn’t it feel like the world would never end?” The smile is still wide, sweetened with teeth.

[15:35:35] The Judge snapped her head up in the noose as though awakening from a slumber and cut coldly, " He should feel guilt. He must feel guilt. It is paramount in his rehabilitation."

Biting and hissed, her voice chilled like the first flakes of an avalanche, "The only other path is death. The only other path is martyrdom."

[15:39:15] The Man: " You." He turned to the middle woman, the woman in gold finery. The one who dictated the law, who forced gravity into her hand. "You’re even worse than she is. At least she’s fun. But you- You just perpetuate what I already know. Ringing in my ears like a church bell! Do you ever get tired of your own voice?!"

He exclaimed those words with a desperate, anxious tone. The man was at his wits end, and yet she still pressed. She still haunted him, long past protective and spiraling into judgment.

[15:45:04] The Judge turned her head to im exasperated hy his rage as though his flame of rage could halt the chill of her voice, " I am your North Star. Your law. Without me, you are filth."

A hand is lifted to point an accusing finger at him, " The moment you discovered this ideology, you cloistered away from me. Avoiding my words- And worse yet, you enjoyed yourself. There is no shame in sin. Nothing can wash your hands of what you’ve done"

Bitterly she scoffed, "Disco destroyed us."

[15:50:20] THE BEAST coils up their lip, spitting to the gallows’ floor, “Is a hand a hand? Or is it just the fingers?” A snap of her head toward him, questions slung; tongue clicking against teeth, “Or the prints themselves? You guide hands like swords.” Behind her back, the clicking of metal decorated fingers tapping against themselves. Another tut, sighing, “Why guide what could be left to roam? Why yoke the beast? For profit. It’s all for /profit/.”

[15:56:24] The Judge snapped her head back at THE BEAST,  " I gave him order. Without me, he would be - you -"

The cold chill of her voice becomes a raging blizzard as she strains against the noose, indignant and insufferable, "Without me, he would be a drooling beast lumbering the streets, or dead in a ditch. But that does not matter now, does it? We always find ourselves in ditches, no matter what I do."

[16:00:09] The Man: With a low breath he swings out his arm into the air, palm open. A call of ceasefire. "Enough." He looked to the Beast, then the Judge- Deliberating on their words and the bickering before his gaze falls upon the final.

The veiled woman, the funeral garbed soul. The one closest to him, yet just as far apart. "And what of you? The balancing act. The ultimate fool. The one who watches it all fall apart?" He asks with an incredulous tone.

[16:05:04] Her: was tired, her voice speaks out in a firm tone " I can work miracles. I just lay hands on a person, and they… you know, if they had cancer, or a tumor, or something in the blood… I'm not very good with terms. But God loves me…However, touch is transformative. You can only change someone through touch. They'll undergo a metamorphosis, and not even notice."

[16:09:19] The Man: He stared her way for a long, silent moment. Neither of them had expression, they were stripped away by those masks and veils. But even still his voice bled through with a pained nostalgia. "Your hands are made for killing, not miracles. I remember what gentle hands are, free of sin and sawdust. I remember as a child, everything felt so perfect."

He folded his arms as he looked down- Cage not permitting his head to fully stare to the floor. "Now even my eyes seem to go. I see triple, and they all stare back with that same awful look. That mocking look." He raises his gaze to the three again, shifting slowly along the trio of the condemned.

[16:15:01] Her: says " Perhaps. But you walked through the world, didn't you? Everyone has hands. Everyone has a purpose. They just need to find it; and I found it. Do not blame me because you were still aimless even after that. Even after I managed to reason with the judge, and yoke the beast."

[16:19:05] The Man: " And now here you stand. With no more excuses left to give, or lies to weave. With every word your tongues grow longer, and soon you’ll be hanging from them." He stepped back towards the side of the gallows, his gaze leveled on the levers beside each of the women and the ropes that bind them.

"I know what I am. I am the beast I worship, just as much as I am the judge. I’ve been dancing- Dancing. No matter how much they say that I am a great favorite, I have danced myself right into a corner that I see only one path out of. And it involves selling each and every one of you out."

[16:25:02] THE BEAST gasps, shaking their head fervently, rising up to tiptoes with an outcry, “Let me live, kill the others!” Their voice is loud, bouncing off stone around them to rise above them all. The pleading tone of desperation, manic frailty; a once-love standing on the edge of a rooftop, “Let’s run wild on this city. Let’s burn it down and guzzle tequila on the ashes, baby!” A crack of laughter and heavy breath to heave breasts as they squirm on their toes.

[16:31:39] The Judge heard the hated words of THE BEAST, back straightening, chin lifting. The blizzard of her breath was stern and chipped with ice,  Spare me, even spare the other. But kill that beast. We both know if left to its own devices, we will all pay the price. And worst of all, we will lose all respect in the process."

[16:36:28] Her: Yells in anger and frustration " Kill me. Get it over with- I won’t bargain like the others. I know what we did. I know what you and I have become. And worst of all, I know what she did to us. We haven’t had a heart in years. We were planning on drinking ourselves to death anyways, until the judge had a more elegant solution."

She struggles against the noose to no avail " This was never a trial. Stop acting like you don’t belong up here too. Do it." She said with disdain and anger in her voice.

[16:40:24] The Man: He stepped around, standing in front of Her as he sneered behind his mask. "You don’t get to dictate anything anymore." There was a step back, as he surveyed all three of them. "None of you do, in fact. And neither do I. You’re right, this was never a trial, its an execution."

He walked around then to stand beside Her, and grasped her lever- Holding it firm with white knuckled grasp.

[16:45:07] THE BEAST ’s smile has faded, eyes piercing across the gallows and through the mask he hides within. Through gritted teeth it hisses, “Then pull the lever, /Disco boy/.” They writhe and squirm, as if trying to lunge at him, “Kick the chair out from under us, let’s dance one more time.”

[16:50:49] The Judge dropped her hands to her side. She, having gone from chilled wind, to avalanche, to raging blizzard became passive and bored, "We didn’t make the knot right, we’ll surely die strangled. Seconds will turn to an eternity. "

[16:55:09] Her: has given up, and says with a resigned tone " I think he knows. This is all for her."

[16:57:42] The Man: There was a pregnant pause that filled the room, before he gave a firm nod. "For her." One by one he began to walk down the line, quickly yanking the lever of each. With a sudden drop each woman fell, the ropes each letting out a sickening SNAP as they tighten suddenly, and each hangs motionless, dangling there as he stares down at his handiwork.

He stepped around then, looking out to the crowd- Before he bowed. The death of everything the backdrop to his finale.

[16:58:10] .: kazimer Resident performs a deeply respectful bow.

[17:07:47] The Man: There was a length pause of him prowling about on the stage, staring down the audience before finally- The energy returned. He pivoted around to face the women, and one by one began to grasp at their arms. Each of them as he grasped seemed to return to life, his assistance helping them lift themselves back onto the stage as the nooses are lifted away, revealing a gimmicked second knot.

With a look back once more to the crowd, he made his way behind the gallows, and made his way for the short staircase.

[17:08:40] THE BEAST holds her quite dead pose until she's helped, climbing out of the false fall with a perky breath and bounce.

[17:09:41] The Theater: And that was it. His Ego, his Id, his Superego, snuffed out over Her. She was the reason for all. And the reason for it all to cease.

A rarius by the name of Acadius Scipio has arrested a Freeperson and their kajiru for suspected heresy. The slave was identified with armbands depicting Odin's horns, a religious symbol connected to the false Torvie deity, which is a violation of Initiate Law. As a result, the Freeperson responsible for the slave has been arrested to answer for the transgression that their slave has wrought upon our city and its people. The trial is taking place behind closed doors, a verdict will soon be determined by the High Initiate. Let this serve as a reminder, that such heretical religious symbols will not be tolerated as it invites the wrath and fury of the Kings upon each and every one of us.

They seek to test us, our resolve, our strength, our faith! Cast aside the shackles of doubt and tribulation and steel your faith and devotion to the Divine Kings. We will rebuild what has been washed away, stronger, and better than before.

In the final hours of a potters work day, he decided to shape two cups from the same clay.

The first cup, humble, was set in the temple, filled daily with clean and pure water for ritual.

The second cup which boasted proudly of its shape and design, refused the temple and chose to sit amongst the feasts and wines, passed from hand to hand in the tavern.

In time, the humble cup was chipped by cold water and worn by years of service, yet revered and never discarded.

The proud cup however, was cracked in a drunken brawl, scoffed at, and cast into the gutter, forgotten.

So it is with men. The vessel that serves the Priest Kings, though worn and chipped, is never without purpose. The vessel that serves only itself, is shattered and forgotten.

⚓ Scribe:

The Scribe Caste continues to thrive as the city grows with new citizens swearing to the Home Stone. Our numbers are steadily increasing, reflecting the vibrant expansion of Selnar. To ensure we have accurate records, the census remains ongoing, and we urge all citizens to update their information with the Scribe's Hall. This includes details about where you are residing, as well as any losses or property damage sustained during the recent floods.

If you need to report such incidents, please come to the Blue Caste Hall where we can ensure your concerns are properly documented. Additionally, we are offering assistance with temporary housing for those affected by the flood, as the damage is being assessed and homes are being rebuilt. Your safety and well-being are of utmost importance during this time of recovery.

As a reminder, be sure to register your slaves, as well as any contracts or companionships, to ensure the city's records remain up-to-date.

In governance news, Cornelius Aloysius Tarrant has been nominated as the Head of Caste representative. He will stand before the High Council at the upcoming meeting for a final vote. We have full confidence that Cornelius will bring the wisdom and leadership necessary to guide the Scribe Caste through the next chapter.

Stay tuned for further announcements, and thank you for your continued dedication to the City of Selnar.

➤ Next Blue Caste Meeting:  Saturday, August 9th @ 1pm SLT

⚓ Physician:

The Physicians’ Caste continues to expand, with the recent addition of two new apprentices—Lady Estrella and Sir Aetes. Their acceptance into the Caste is a testament to the growing strength and expertise of our order, and we look forward to the contributions they will bring in their training.

In our ongoing efforts to serve the people of Selnar, the Physicians are still offering free treatment for memory-related issues, as well as rejuvenating serums for those in need. These services remain open to all who seek them, reflecting our commitment to the well-being of every citizen.

Additionally, the Caste is currently seeking slaves who wish to assist in the infirmary or undergo infirmary slave training. Any interested slaves must have written permission from their owner before applying. This is a great opportunity for those wishing to contribute to the health of Selnar while learning valuable skills.

In leadership news, Lady Toi Armani Skolldir has been officially nominated as the next Physician Head of Caste. We wish Toi success in the forthcoming discussions and await confirmation following the High Council meeting. In a related note, Lady Fate has been named as the new Assistant Head of Caste, a decision that promises to bring fresh leadership and direction to the Caste.

We await the conclusion of the High Council meeting before scheduling our next Physicians' Caste gathering. Stay tuned for further updates.

➤ The Healer's Corner: Dear Lady Lyra -- Your Questions Answered:

Dear Lady Lyra,

Its been insanely hot this season and all this rain we had recently is making it more humid than usual. What can we do about this?

Lurius"

Dear Lurius,

Thank you for your question. I feel this is a question of great relevance and importance to public health. Cos's climate is a fair warm this time of year and, being an island, it is surrounded by Thassa all around, which humidifies the air leading to summer heat being insulated by the moisture in the air, making it feel warmer than it really is and this can have some health effects.

High humidity reduces the body's ability to cool itself through sweat evaporation, leading to heat exhaustion, heatstroke, and other heat-related illnesses. Because the air feels warmer than the official, recorded temperature, it can contribute to feelings of low energy and lethargy. In addition, hyperthermia (or over-heating as a result of your body’s inability to effectively mitigate excess heat) can negatively impact your health in conditions of high humidity. Some health risks which result from overexposure to humidity (hyperthermia) include:

Dehydration

Fatigue

Muscle cramps

Heat exhaustion

Fainting

Heat stroke

If you or someone you are with begins to exhibit symptoms of heatstroke, such as headaches, confusion, or vomiting, seek medical attention immediately!

To help mitigate these risks,  drink plenty of water throughout the day and take frequent breaks in a cooler place, preferably with adequate shade. You can also add some larma juice to your water for a little flavor, vitamin C, and electrolytes. I HIGHLY recommend these measures and considerations be taken for anyone who works outside in the normal course of their profession, including slaves who do their labours out in the heat, as both free and slave alike working out the heat are, obviously, the most susceptible.

Senior Researcher of the Selnar Physician's Caste

⚓ Builders:

The Builder Caste continues its diligent work in the aftermath of the storm, with significant progress being made on the restoration of the city. Thanks to the hard work and perseverance of our builders, many of the businesses that were once closed due to damage have reopened, bringing renewed life to Selnar's bustling streets. Their dedication to repairing the city’s infrastructure has been invaluable in our recovery efforts, and we are grateful for their tireless efforts.

The island villas remain under construction, but notable progress is being made. These luxurious residences, once damaged, are slowly being restored to their former glory, and we can expect to see their completion in the coming months. Builders are working around the clock to ensure these homes will be as sturdy and grand as they were before the storm.

As we move forward, it is essential for citizens to report any remaining damages to their homes or businesses. If you are unsure about the structural integrity of your property, the Builder Caste is ready to perform a detailed analysis to assess the support and safety of your structures. This step is crucial to ensure that our city remains strong and secure for all who live and work here.

Thank you to all who have contributed to the restoration efforts thus far. The work continues, and together we will rebuild a city stronger than before.

⚓ Warriors:

The Warrior Caste is undergoing a period of change, with new appointments and shifts in ranks that will strengthen the Caste’s future. As part of these changes, Captain Pertinax Adrastus has officially stepped down from his position as Praetor and has taken on the role of Censor within the Caste. His decision to transition into this new position reflects his continued dedication to the well-being and discipline of the Warrior Caste, and we are confident that his leadership will ensure the integrity of our order.

Alongside these adjustments, ongoing training remains a priority. Our warriors continue to refine their skills, ensuring that the Caste is ready for any challenge that may arise in the future. The Warrior Caste remains steadfast in its commitment to upholding the honor and strength of Selnar.

These changes mark a significant step forward for the Warrior Caste, and we look forward to seeing how these new roles will shape our future endeavors. Stay vigilant and ready, as always.

⚓ Merchants:

The Merchant Caste is gearing up for the Merchant Carnival this weekend, a highly anticipated event that promises a vibrant display of goods, entertainment, and the bustling energy of our city's trade. It’s the perfect time to engage with fellow merchants, showcase your finest wares, and take part in the festivities. We encourage all members of the Caste to participate and make this carnival one to remember.

In other news, we’ve heard that the Merchant Eion has left the city.  While this information comes secondhand, we suggest confirming this directly with him to clarify the matter. His absence has raised a few eyebrows, but for now, all remains quiet on the western front.

However, whispers abound of a potential rift between the Merchant and Warrior Caste. According to rumors, there were some harsh words exchanged during a recent incident at the Hand of Fate. Speculation suggests that tensions might be brewing, though whether this will escalate remains to be seen. As always, Lady Whispervine may have more to share, should she choose to further fuel the intrigue.

Keep your ears open, fellow merchants, and stay tuned for any developments. Let’s continue to work together to keep Selnar thriving.

➤ Now, it’s time for the ladies to shine!  Each contestant has answered the following question:  "If I were to go with my brothers to war and be away from home for a long period of time, how would you uphold my honor and show your loyalty in my absence?''

                                         A Gorean Bachelor-Inspired Contest

➤ Contestant 1:

Should you be called to war, my loyalty would lie with your family and your cause. I would speak of your honor with every conversation, ensuring that others understand the integrity of your character. I would see to the welfare of your household and those who serve you, offering my assistance when needed, and ensuring that those left behind never feel abandoned. Your absence would only serve to deepen the respect I have for you.

➤ Contestant 2:

While you were at war I would pray every day for the safe and victorious return of you and your brothers in arms. I would also continue my caste duties everyday to continue to bring honor to the homestone and your house. Never placing myself in a position where anything could be questioned or thought to be wrong.

➤ Contestant 3: (Bubbles)

I  would make sure to take care of all he possessed slaves, house, family. I would wear his colors. And hide my hair. As a merchant I wouldn't need to do that, but as his woman out of respect to him and our partnership I would, to show I'm his even when he is gone.

➤ Contestant 4:

I would make sure that your records, your words, and your deeds are preserved for the future. I would take it upon myself to write of your actions, your valor, and your unwavering loyalty to the Home Stone. Through my words, I would ensure that your honor lives on, even in your absence. No history will be lost, no memory will fade. I will stand by your name, making sure it remains unblemished, waiting for your return.

➤ Contestant 5:

    No answer this round.

➤ Contestant 6:

Were you to be called to war and if there were not yet offspring, I would do my best before your departure to ensure that your heir, the continuation of your line and honor was on their way. While you were away, I would continue in the work of my Caste to ensure that the city remains thriving and prepared for defense, the men left to protect our shared precious Home Stone supplied and supported. Every action and word would be considered to ensure that there was no possible question of my modesty or loyalty. The front of our home would be festooned with your banners and that of the warriors and I would haunt the docks, watching for any sight of your ship returning.

➤ Contestant 7:

Your honor would be upheld with my sword. If you were to go to war, I would stand ready to protect those you hold dear. I would ensure that any challenge to your name or your family is met with swift justice. I would defend your honor on the battlefield if necessary and off it, ensuring that no enemy would dare speak ill of you. Your cause would be my cause, and your family would be under my protection until you return.

➤ Contestant 8:

A man does not need a woman, even if it happens to be HIS woman, to sing his praises and uphold his honor in his absence. His honor exists on his terms, not those of his brethren or of his women, be they free or enslaved. His honor is his own, and is upheld through his honorable words, thoughts, and actions, not through anything I would choose to do or say. If a man companions me, and I am known as his companion, and he is known as honorable, that alone is enough. That being said, I would do my best to bolster the war effort at home however I could, making sure to accurately record accounts of battles, send letters of support and care packages full of supplies and reminders of home to the front lines, and know, even as I seal and send these treasures, that he will return home safe and victorious, for he is a warrior of Selnar.

❖ This Week's Whisperings -Fresh from the Vine: Rumors Ready to Ripen ❖

Dearest Darlings of Decorum and Discretion,

It seems the city can barely catch its breath between blushing scandals and whispered betrayals—and I, your ever-curious chronicler, have been simply drowning in ink and innuendo. This week brings not one central entanglement, but a garden of delicious indiscretions, all ripe for the plucking.

Let us pluck ...

*:-.,_,.-:*'´ `*.¸.*´`'*:-.,_,.-:*

My Dearest Readers,

A most curious piece of information has crossed my path, one that is bound to stir the imagination and intrigue of many. It seems that the enigmatic Imperial Order of the Veil is indeed a reality, and I have managed to procure a glimpse of its official logo. A beautifully intricate design, though little more than a symbol for now, it is enough to confirm that something is stirring beneath the surface of Selnar's elite circles.

Details, I must confess, remain frustratingly scarce. However, the whispers are loud and persistent. Some suggest that the Order is poised to become a highly exclusive society, formed by the most distinguished of Selnarian Free Women. A society governed by strict and very particular rules—rules, it is said, that only a few will ever be able to understand, let alone follow.

As if this were not enough to pique one’s curiosity, there are even murmurs of special invitations being prepared, to be sent to only the most carefully selected women of the upper castes. Invitations that will grant access to this mysterious group and, perhaps, its coveted secrets.

The air is thick with speculation, and yet the truth remains as elusive as ever. My dear ones, if you have the privilege of knowing someone whose name is whispered in connection with this elusive Order, take heed—the veil may hide more than you could ever imagine.

Until the next whisper, remain ever watchful, and ever curious.

Yours, in shadowed mysteries,

Lady Whispervine

*:-.,_,.-:*'´ `*.¸.*´`'*:-.,_,.-:*

Dearest Readers,

It would appear that not all that glitters in the Merchant Caste is gold—or at least, not willingly surrendered. A certain tradesman of sterling reputation (whose initials, we are told, jingle rather like coins themselves) was recently observed in a most unbecoming state. Red-faced, breathless, and patting himself down with the fervor of a panicked auctioneer, he lamented the mysterious disappearance of his coin purse following an exceedingly private supper shared with a veiled guest of no declared companionship.

Imagine the miracle, then, when said lady—her veil pristine, her smile unreadable—produced the missing item from beneath his own cushion. A generous reward was offered, of course, as any gentleman might do when caught so... exposed. Yet those watching closely noted the subtle exchange: a knowing nod, a lingering glance, and the unmistakable scent of scandal lingering long after the purse was returned.

One must wonder, dear hearts… was the coin ever truly lost, or was it simply the price of admission?

—Yours in discretion and delight,

Lady Whispervine

*:-.,_,.-:*'´ `*.¸.*´`'*:-.,_,.-:*

My Dearest Readers,

It has come to my attention that certain individuals—blinded, perhaps, by ambition or ignorance—are toying with the most dangerous of thoughts. Whispers suggest that one might attempt to enslave Lady Toi of the Physician Caste, a woman of rare intellect and formidable presence. Allow me to offer a word of caution for any who might entertain such a daring notion: attempting to subjugate Lady Toi would be like plunging one’s hand into a hornet’s nest. There would be a most painful sting, and surely, much more than they bargained for.

The Physician Caste is not one to be trifled with, nor are its esteemed members to be cowed by simple men who do not understand the sharpness of their minds, nor the fierceness of their will. To challenge Lady Toi would be the height of folly. One would do well to remember that some forces are better left undisturbed.

Until the next revelation, my dear ones, take heed of these quiet dangers that linger in the shadows.

Yours, as always, in secrecy and intrigue,

Lady Whispervine

*:-.,_,.-:*'´ `*.¸.*´`'*:-.,_,.-:*

My Dearest Readers,

It seems that the ever-controversial Bryan Kobaleinen has once again thrust himself into the heart of Selnar’s latest spectacle, this time in a most public manner. The scene was nothing short of chaotic, unfolding right before the grand façade of the caste building where many eyes could not help but watch. Yes, my dear ones, the Warrior caste’s own Bryan, well-known for his boldness, chose to challenge another warrior—right in front of the very institution that upholds order and dignity.

What a curious spectacle it was, one that has left many pondering the true nature of his actions. For in this public display, it seems he has crossed a line, strutting about as though he were more than just a mere soldier, but a commander of men. His arrogance—blatant and unashamed—suggests that he may have begun to see himself as someone more than his rank allows. Some might even whisper that he is reaching for something more, perhaps even an authority he does not possess.

And then there’s his recent companionship with none other than the proprietor of the Hand of Fate. Could it be that this new alliance is beginning to mold him in ways less honorable than we would hope for a man of his station? There are those who say that the influence of this particular individual has begun to seep into Bryan’s behavior, and not for the better. Is it possible that the trappings of power are starting to cloud his judgment? Only time will tell, but mark my words—when warriors begin to challenge their peers in public, it often signals a larger play for power.

Let us all keep our eyes peeled, for the winds of change may be blowing through our city, and they may bring more than just the usual dust.

Until the next stirring revelation,

Lady Whispervine

*:-.,_,.-:*'´ `*.¸.*´`'*:-.,_,.-:*

Beloved Voyeurs of the Veil,

Not all storms begin with thunder. Sometimes, they arrive in the tilt of a goblet. At a recent gathering of otherwise refined company, a toast took a decidedly dramatic turn when one Free Woman’s drink found its way—not to her lips—but cascading down the front of another’s silken robes. An accident, they claimed. How gracious, how genteel… and yet, how curious that the offending party wore a smile sweet enough to curdle cream as she offered her apology.

Was it simply an unfortunate slip of the wrist? Or might it have been something far more calculated—an aged grievance poured out with vintage flair? We may never know for certain, but one thing is clear: the stain may fade from silk, but such moments have a way of setting far deeper into memory.

—Ever yours in spilled truths,

Lady Whispervine

*:-.,_,.-:*'´ `*.¸.*´`'*:-.,_,.-:*

Oh, You Who Claim to Be Above It All,

It seems sweetness, like scandal, is best served in secret. Behind the bathhouse, two male slaves were recently caught in a most brazen act of culinary rebellion: enjoying a fig tart clearly not meant for their caste. Not just any tart, mind you, but one rumored to have been destined for the Ubar’s very own table.

Now, sharing is often praised as a virtue... but when the pastry in question belongs to the highest hand in the land? That kind of generosity might earn more than just crumbs of consequence. Whispers say the pair may be headed for the whip. Others suggest the Ubar, known to enjoy a touch of fire in both palate and politics, might see the act as boldness worth rewarding.

Rebellion in layers of honeyed crust? Deliciously dangerous.

—With a spoonful of speculation,

Lady Whispervine

*:-.,_,.-:*'´ `*.¸.*´`'*:-.,_,.-:*

So, dearest readers, as the city teeters between propriety and passion, remember: nothing stays buried forever—except, perhaps, a few reputations.

Yours, where ink stains secrets and silk hides sin,

Lady Whispervine

It is with a well-inked quill and a sharply raised brow that I bring you news sure to send ripples through every salon and scribe hall in the Ubarate: the former Praetor and ever-stoic Captain Pertinax Adrastus has formally entered into courtship with none other than the Assistant Head of Scribes, the esteemed and ever-composed Lady Kaela Priscus Altius.

A match made in the stars? Perhaps. A match made in strategy? Most certainly.

While Lady Priscus has long been admired for her unwavering dedication to scrolls, law, and civic order—not to mention her carefully guarded heart—many had placed quiet wagers on a certain other suitor who lingered often at her side with wistful glances and wine-sweet words. Yet, in a turn that has left tongues wagging and ink flowing, it seems fate—or something altogether more Imperial—had other plans.

One cannot help but observe that this developing union bears all the hallmarks of a true Cosian alliance: power, ambition, and the potential for quite the political crescendo. Whispers suggest the arrangement was not born entirely of sentiment, but of design. Yet… there is hope, ever fragile and flickering, that affection might take root between parchment and polished steel.

Lady Priscus, with her pen as her weapon, and Captain Adrastus, whose sword has defended more than one corner of the Empire, may yet find common ground not only in duty but in something far softer. Already, citizens are abuzz with speculation—and expectation—about what this match may produce. A new line of Cosian warriors, birthed from ink and iron? One dares to dream.

For now, we watch, we whisper, and we wonder. Will the scroll embrace the blade, or will sparks fly in more ways than one?

~ Where curiosity dares, and modesty flees ~

Dear Lady Whispervine,

My Mistress has begun using me as a human footstool during her tea visits. I don’t mind—I rather enjoy the position—but her guests have started placing their feet on me too, without asking. Am I community furniture now?

Dearest Ottoman with Opinions,

While one must always strive to be useful, even furniture deserves boundaries. If you're not being paid in stroking fingers or whispered praise, you may request clarity from your Mistress—with your forehead still politely to the floor, of course. You’re a submissive, not a banquet bench.

❖ ────── ✧ ────── ❖

Dear Lady Whispervine,

There’s a Lady I’ve been courting with every ounce of honor I can muster. I’ve sent flowers, poems, and even cleaned my boots. She still treats me like a bothersome insect. Should I persist—or let her swat me?

Dearest Petal Under Her Heel,

If you must be stepped on, at least make it worth her while. But be warned: some women grow gardens with care, others pull petals for sport. Persistence is noble, but dignity is divine. Leave one last flower. If she steps over it—walk away with your boots still polished.

❖ ────── ✧ ────── ❖

Lady Whispervine,

A fellow Free Woman has begun wearing shades of silk… far too sheer for what modest society allows. I say nothing, of course, but the men are saying plenty. Is it ever right to correct a sister in silk?

Dearest Severely Sheer,

Ah, the sheer scandal of it all. When the veil thins, so do friendships. Whisper once. If she hears you, you’ve done your duty. If she doesn’t—well, some reputations are like tight robes: destined to split at the seams. Let the city judge. Or let the Order of the Veil do it for you.

❖ ────── ✧ ────── ❖

Is city life messing up your love life, your fur decor, or are you expected to host a decent feast with people you hate? Lady Whispervine wants to hear from you! Send in your whispers, your worries, and your battlefield blunders.

⚓ The Veiled Vogue Presents: Silken Chains & Satin Whispers

A Fashion Guide for the Slaves of Selnar 🥀

By special commission for our uncollared sisters and collared beauties alike

While much of Selnar’s fashion focuses on the refined silks and veils of Free Women or the armor and leather of Warriors, it would be a disservice not to turn our gaze upon those who so often move unseen—yet are always being watched. From the humble kettle slave to the high-bred pleasure thrall, fashion is not just permitted among kajirae and kajiri—it is expected.

In this special edition, The Veiled Vogue offers a curated list of must-have items for slaves of every station, function, and flavor. Whether you serve at the hearth, the hall, or the foot of a high seat, presentation is part of your purpose.

❖ THE ESSENTIALS FOR EVERY COLLAR

Regardless of caste, collar, or chain, these basics are the foundation of any slave’s wardrobe and toolkit:

➤ Basic Camisk (White or Taupe):

Always have at least one clean, undecorated camisk in breathable fabric. This serves both function and humility.

➤ Kettle Cord or Binding Strip:

A simple leather tie for securing hair, fabric, or wrists—versatile and subtly sensual.

➤ Slave Bells or Anklets (Optional but adored):

Discreet bells announce your presence with charm. Use sparingly unless your Master prefers the music of your steps.

➤ Brush & Oil for Hair Maintenance:

Presentation matters. Unkempt hair is a dishonor to the collar unless intentionally styled so.

➤ Softening Balm or Salve:

Cracked heels and dry hands speak of neglect. A well-cared-for slave is a pleasing slave.

❖ FOR THE KETTLE AND MAT SLAVES

The workers, the scrubbers, the tireless hands of Selnar.

➤ Linen Work Camisk (Dark or Earth-Toned):

Made for durability and ease of movement. Often sleeveless or short-sleeved with reinforced seams.

➤ Apron or Tool Belt:

Pockets for cleaning cloths, polish rags, or spice satchels for kitchen slaves.

➤ Modesty Strip or Chest Wrap:

Particularly for cold mornings or public chores where discretion is required.

➤ Barefoot Sandals or Toe Wraps:

Protects feet without sacrificing the aesthetic of the bare kajira form.

➤ Utility Collar (Iron or Bronze):

Practical and plain—yet still worn with pride. Often engraved with House or City markings.

❖ FOR DANCERS & PLEASURE SLAVES

Those trained in the art of seduction, beauty, and exquisite service.

➤ Sheer Silks (Layered or Cling Fit):

Colors vary by preference, House, or event. Jewel tones, fire hues, and pale blushes are most coveted.

➤ Coin or Beaded Belt:

Accentuates the hips and music of the movement. Some include bells or charms.

➤ Hair Jewelry or Ribbons:

Adornments may include chains, shells, feathers, or dyed cloth, based on the dancer’s theme or origin.

➤ Perfume Oils:

Light floral or spiced blends for the wrists, behind the ears, or lightly dusted over the skin. Use sparingly—scent is a weapon.

➤ Bracelets or Armlets (One Arm Bare Rule May Apply):

Depending on a Master’s taste, asymmetry often highlights curves and form.

➤ Training Sand or Dance Shoes (for Preparation Only):

Protect the feet during practice. Remove before the actual performance—barefoot is tradition.

❖ FOR HIGH-BRED AND DISPLAY SLAVES

Those who grace the halls of the High Castes, serve at feasts, or accompany their Masters on public outings.

➤ Decorative Camisk or Gown (Layered, Colored, or Embellished):

Worn for beauty and status. Fabrics may include satin, lace-trimmed linen, or translucent silk.

➤ House Colors Integration:

Subtle embroidery or sashes in the House’s color, to signify where loyalty and ownership lie.

➤ Gold or Silver Adornments:

Subtle but rich—a token bracelet, anklet, or chain suggests value without overstepping station.

➤ Cosian Mark or Tattoo (If Permitted):

Some high-bred slaves are branded or marked with exquisite artistry. This is often private—yet cherished.

➤ Veils (Rare but Rumored):

Occasionally gifted by a Master who wishes to preserve his slave’s beauty for his eyes alone. A rare and provocative power play.

❖ SEASONAL & SPECIALTY ITEMS

➤ Cloaks or Wraps (for Winter):

Lined with fur or fleece. Slaves may serve in the cold, but owners often prefer their property intact.

➤ Festival Accessories:

Floral crowns for spring, painted skin patterns for revels, or ribbons tied in city colors during parades.

➤ Chain Sets for Performances or Restraint Play:

Fitted, elegant, and sometimes purely ornamental—though the key always rests in another’s hand.

❖ FINAL WHISPERS FROM THE VEIL

Remember, dear kajirae and kajiri, that fashion is not about vanity—but about pleasing. The cut of your camisk, the scent of your skin, and the shimmer of oil on your thigh all serve a purpose. A well-dressed slave is a reflection of her Master’s taste and a silent enticement to all who witness.

Dress wisely. Walk proudly. And never forget that in Selnar, even in chains, beauty reigns.

May your silks never snag and your collar never tarnish.

Until next time,

—The Veiled Vogue
